PACK 149 BLUE & GOLD BANQUET

A CELEBRATION OF

 SCOUTING’S BIRTHDAY & YOUR SON’S ADVANCEMENT

Dear Den Leaders:

The Blue and Gold banquet is a celebration of Scouting’s birthday in America and your Cub Scout’s advancement to the next rank.  We believe that advancement should be a real event.  We would also like this evening to be a fun and memorable time for everyone.

To ensure that the Cub Scouts get the attention they deserve, only Cub Scouts and their parents are being invited to attend.  However, if a sibling is a Boy Scout, he may attend in full uniform.  He may also help serve and clean up if he needs to earn community service credit.  Please give me the names of any Boy Scouts who would like to help out by the next Leader’s Meeting, Feb 1, 2004.  It is up to the Den Leaders to communicate this to parents as you hand out the registration form so that there are no misunderstandings.  It is important that you, the Den Leader, emphasize the importance of attending this Ceremony, as it is the culmination of each Cub Scout’s work.

The Cub Scouts should be involved with the planning for this event so that they feel they are a part of the evening’s ceremony and so that they can take pride in the banquet.  Rather than having a decorating committee involving the parents, we would like each Den to decorate their own table(s).  This year’s theme is “Scouting Around the World, Around the Corner".  Each table should have a centerpiece and placemats for all attending.

Each Den is responsible for providing desert (including any plates and utensils that it may require) for their Den only.  We have found that simple desserts such as cookies or squares work best.

Prior to the Banquet, you should discuss the meaning behind Blue and Gold with your Cub Scouts. The history of Scouting can be found in the Cub Scout Leader Book, as well as the Web. The significance of Blue & Gold is that they are the primary colors of scouting.  Blue stands for truth and spirituality, steadfast loyalty and the sky above.  Gold stands for warm sunlight, good cheer, and happiness.

Please collect the money and the forms and deliver them to us no later than the Leader’s Meeting on February 1. (Check with you individual Den Leaders to see when your Den is turning in their forms and money collectively.)

Again, the success of this event depends on us conveying to the parents how important this Banquet is!!

Thank You,
