Come and join your fellow Cub Scouts for an
evening aboard the USS Lexington!
This years pack trip will be aboard the USS Lexington
LIVE ABOARD GENERAL INFORMATION
PROGRAM AVAILABILITY - The program is available to all organized youth
groups: churches, schools, YMCA/YWCA, BSA, GSA, etc.
AGE - Participants must be at least five years of age.
PROGRAM COSTS - Cost of the program is $44.00* per participant. This cost
includes overnight stay in crew quarters, three meals (breakfast, lunch and
dinner), tour of LEXINGTON and planned activities on board and admission to the
MegaScreen theater. Also available at additional cost: The Mess Deck café (9:00
A.M. - 5:00 P.M.), Flight Simulator ($3.50 per person) and a coin-operated game
room.
CHECK-IN - During Check-in
vehicles are not permitted on the pier. Campers are expected to carry sleeping
bags and other gear on board. The LIVE ABOARD PROGRAM is conducted in a
fun-spirited, but military manner. Falling in, stowing your gear and following
orders are all part of this unique and memorable experience.
GROUP I.D. BADGES - Identification badges will be issued upon arrival and
must be worn at all times on board LEXINGTON.
LEADER/CAMPER RATIO - One leader is required for every 5 campers.
SLEEPING AREAS - All campers are assigned specific berthing compartments
and must respect the privacy of other campers. Restroom facilities (heads)
include showers. Most berthing compartments are climate controlled; however,
when all such areas have been filled, campers may be assigned areas having
ventilation only.
EQUIPMENT NEEDED - Each person must bring a pillow, sleeping bag,
toiletries, towel and flashlight. Insect repellent is advisable. Absolutely no
electrical devices may be brought on board. Cell phones are allowed; however,
safe plugs for chargers are available in the Live Aboard office only. Due to the
metal in the ship's structure, cell phones may not be operational in many areas
of the ship.
LOCKERS - Lockers are available in berthing compartments. Each camper
should bring a lock to secure his or her valuables and personal belongings.
NO CARRY-ON FOOD OR DRINK OF ANY KIND WILL BE ALLOWED except for special dietary
needs. All meals are provided, and vending machines are available.
FIRE DRILLS - Each group will be required to participate in a fire drill,
as well as provide additional personnel for the fire watch program. Complete
cooperation from each group and leader is expected. See important firewatch
procedures below.
ARRIVAL TIME - The check-in briefing is an important part of your camping
experience. Therefore, you are requested to drive in a caravan to have all your
vehicles arrive simultaneously. If you must make an exception or if car trouble
delays arrival time, please call the Live Aboard Program Coordinator. Kenny
Adams, at 361-888-4873.
PLEASE NOTE - Due to other activities that take place on board LEXINGTON,
it is possible that a banquet, dinner/dance, cocktails, or other function may
take place during your visit. Your group would be asked to stay clear of the
event area.
Groups will be required to share berthing areas to accommodate males and females
separately. In addition, LEXINGTON can hold more than one group at a time and
groups may participate in activities together. Please contact the Live Aboard
Office if this presents a problem.
THE MESS DECK CAFÉ
The following are typical menus served during your stay and are subject to
change:
LUNCH - Hot dogs with chili, cheese and onions. Served with a cold can of soda.
DINNER - Salisbury steak, mashed potatoes, gravy, buttered corn, bread, dessert.

BREAKFAST - Scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausage, biscuits & gravy, cold cereal,
danish. Served with milk and juice.
The catering staff will do its best to make your stay a pleasant one.
Special dietary requirements can be met with a written notice received one week
prior to your arrival. The Mess Deck café, located on the Hangar Deck, is open
daily during Museum hours.
Vending machines are available in the CPO Lounge.
FIRE WATCH PROCEDURES
Live Aboard personnel will designate adult watch standers from each group to
provide fire/security watches during the hours of midnight to 6:00 a.m. These
watch standers will be known as "Guest Escorts" and will be provided with
flashlights, whistles and vests to identify them. There will be three assigned
for each occupied berthing area to stand two hour watches.
At 5:15 p.m. on the day of arrival, watch standers will report to the ship's
Damage Control officer for a briefing on duties. Watch standers will be
responsible for the following:
-
Do a walkthrough of respective berthing areas every 15-20
minutes
-
Be alert for any sign of smoke/fire
-
Be familiar with all exit routes from the berthing area
-
Be familiar with location of nearest pull station
-
Be familiar with use of fire extinguisher (DC will
demonstrate)
-
In the event of smoke/fire, pull fire alarm, blow whistle and
ensure that the area is evacuated
-
Assist in evacuation from compartment
-
Know the location of the bunk of the relief person and wake
five minutes prior to watch change.
The DC coming on at midnight is in charge of the watch
standers and will remain in the Live Aboard office/lounge area to direct actions
in the event of an emergency.
