Meeting Minutes

Pack 149 Leaders Meeting

October 13, 2002

The meeting was called to order at 6:08 PM.

The agenda for the meeting was discussed.

October Meeting:

·        Den 4 will be in charge of the flag ceremony during the October Pack meeting.  Den 2 is in charge of the activities for the meeting:  skit night and the Bobcat Ceremony.  Den 2 will write up the agenda.  Scouts are asked to bring a can of fruit for the food drive.

·        Pack leaders are asked to arrive at 6:15 to help set up the tables.  The tables will be set up in a chevron formation in order to keep the boys corralled up front.

·        Seven volunteers will help paint the faces of the Bobcats.  Den leaders will rotate their Bobcats through the face painters in small groups.  The Bobcat Ceremony will be held before the skits.  Parents will stand behind their child during the ceremony.  A Webelos 2 scout will beat the drum.  Carey will make the speech.

·        At least one leader or adult is asked to sit with their boys at the front of the auditorium during the meeting.  The adult should keep the boys sitting near him/her and attempt to keep the noise level down.

·        Den 6 will be the ushers for the skit and will move the participants on and off of the stage.

·        A raffle will be held and the winners will get the honor of performing the adult skit.  Bruce will coordinate the raffle and the skit.

Leader training:

·        Nov. 2nd is the last opportunity for leader training this year.  It will be held at the Christ Episcopal Church, 17011 Fm 1431, Leander, TX.

·        One adult or one leader must take the BALOO training before the Spring campout.  The next BALOO training will be held on Nov. 16th from 9:00 to 4:00 at Lost Pines.

·        Leaders moving on from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts can take a Webelos Training and Transition course at Philmont.  The cost is $300.

·        Let Maria know when you have completed any training.  She needs the information for the rechartering.

Roundtable:

·        Leaders are reminded that roundtable takes place the 1st Thursday of each month.

·        Attending 4 meetings in one calendar year will earn the leader a Knot.

Field Trip:

·        The desired date for a trip to NASA is already taken.  Another open date, April 26th, interferes with the Pinewood Derby.  It may be too late to find a good date.

·        A trip to the San Antonio Zoo will be investigated.  Possible dates are in the first two weeks of November, last two weeks in January, last two weeks in February, and the first two weeks in March.

Cub Car:

·        The Cub Car is the activity for the November meeting.

·        Two large boxes are needed for each den – a total of 24.  Steve will acquire the boxes and the boxes will be distributed to the den leaders right after the October meeting.

·        There are goggles and spray bottles left over from last year.  We probably will not need too many more props.

·        A contingency plan is needed to hold the Cub Car inside if the weather is bad.

Pinewood Derby:

·        The Derby will be held on April 26th

·        There is a problem with holding the Derby at Spicewood.  The Pack is charged $100 for the first hour after 8:00 PM while the auditorium is still occupied and another $50 per hour after that.  The Derby generally lasts well after 8:00.

·        We will ask Bethany if the Derby can be held there so that we can continue the races after 8:00 PM.

Rechartering activities:

·        Maria is in the process of reviewing and inputting the data for the rechartering.

·        Den leaders are reminded to submit a den roster to Maria immediately.

Popcorn Sales:

·        All sales information has been distributed.

·        Orders must be turned in by Nov. 3rd.  Leaders should tally up the orders for their den and then drop off the orders in box located in the volunteer room at Spicewood.

·        Some help and some trucks will be needed on Nov. 20th to pick up the popcorn from the distributor.

Goodwill charitable project:

·        Bags of clothing are due to Goodwill by Nov. 30th.

·        Participants get a form signed and the form gets turned into Connie Murrey.

·        Den leaders should submit a list of the boys who participated to Pedro by Nov. 27th.  Boys who participate will get a special patch.

·        This activity could be used toward a Community Service award or for the American Heritage Award.

Web Site:

·        Leaders are asked to review the Pack 149 web site at http://www.bsapack149.net.

·        Den leaders are asked to get signed waivers from parents before any boy’s name or picture appears on the web site.

Spring campout:

·        Campout is now planned for the first weekend in April.

·        Need ½ of the deposit by the next leaders meeting.

Topics for next meeting:

·        Field trip:  NASA or San Antonio Zoo

·        Beautification project at Spicewood

·        Spring campout planning and deposit

Meeting adjourned at 7:25 PM.
